Plein Air: Bluebell Wood

Five of us had a lovely morning painting in my friend’s bluebell wood. This was an extra plein air session due to the very late flowering of said bluebells.

It was worth the wait; the location was idyllic with early summer warmth and a full orchestra of bird chorus. The wood was completely unspoilt with swathes of bluebells and a pretty white flower called a pignut.

We painted in very close proximity, not needing to venture far for a good view and not wanting to trample the blue carpet, however our results are all very different from delicate watercolour to more vibrant oils.

Thanks to Jane for allowing us to visit, I hope we can go back next year.
