Workshop: Alison Hulme - Printmaking Techniques for Fabric and Paper

A thoroughly enjoyable workshop with Alison.

We arrived to find a wide range of equipment and paints available for our use. Alison had provided everything needed to work her techniques in both fabric and paper. There was a huge selection of ready-made screens, wooden printing blocks and stencils along with all the paints needed, already mixed with the correct mediums.

Each technique was demonstrated efficiently and we were encouraged to experiment. In the morning, we concentrated on layering screen prints with paint washes, taking care to heat-set the inks between layers using the hairdryers and the irons.

In the afternoon, Alison showed us different ways to use gelli plates, pre-cut stencils and wooden printing blocks and then encouraged us to explore, mixing the various techniques as we fancied. We had a terrific time!
