Workshop: Stewart Beckett - Capturing the Landscape in Oils or Acrylics

A full contingent enjoyed a day of tuition with Stewart Beckett.

Working in oils, he began by placing 4 dots forming a square at the centre of the canvas to aid the initial drawing. He worked on a grey ground, sketching the main shapes in.a neutral colour. He demonstrated how to lay out a drawing of loose shapes - no details, then encourage the class to do the same.

Next lay in loose blocks of colour into the outline shapes. Watch for tonal values and remember your colour theory. It was a great day with lots of variation in the results….

and some completed paintings….
