WINNER - THE GREYFRIERS TROPHY FOR BEST WATERCOLOUR. Fantasy by Michael Jones. A powerful and evocative image, which creates a real sense of atmosphere. I appreciate the skilful use of washes, wet into wet and wet onto dry, and to differentiate hard and soft edges. Well done.
RUNNER-UP - THE GREYFRIERS TROPHY FOR BEST WATERCOLOUR. Mudeford Masts by John Collins. Captures the mood and atmosphere of this location, with an interesting foreground.
WINNER - THE ANN MURRAY TROPHY FOR BEST OIL PAINTING. Flower Girl by David Rowland. Colour and contrast combined with skillful painting evokes the atmosphere of a sunny day and a figure in solitude.
RUNNER-UP - THE ANN MURRAY TROPHY FOR BEST OIL PAINTING. Abbey Window, Fallen by Ann Humphrey. Bold brushwork captures the texture of the subject and the movement of the water.
WINNER - THE COURTICE MILLENNIUM PLATE FOR THE BEST PASTEL. Freedom by Pauline Scott. Full of movement and speed. Good composition focusing on the subject matter.
RUNNER-UP - THE COURTICE MILLENNIUM PLATE FOR THE BEST PASTEL. Corfe Castle by John Ridge. Creative use of shapes and colour to suggest the historical landmark. The colour used creates a 3 dimensional quality.
WINNER - THE MASON-SMITH TROPHY FOR THE BEST ACRYLIC. Jetty by Virginia Whiting. Contrast, colour and texture capture the abstracted qualities of the subject.
RUNNER-UP - THE MASON-SMITH TROPHY FOR THE BEST ACRYLIC. Swallows Over Salisbury by David Hughes. A delightful painting that captures the imagination and takes the viewer on a countryside walk.
WINNER - THE JUBILEE TROPHY FOR THE BEST PAINTING IN ANY OTHER MEDIUM. Solitaire by Ann Squire. A beautiful atmospheric study. Cropping the features accentuates the expression of the animal.
RUNNER-UP - THE JUBILEE TROPHY FOR THE BEST PAINTING IN ANY OTHER MEDIUM. Hightown Lake by John Challenor. Excellent use of coloured pencil creates this tranquil scene. Good u-shaped composition leads the eye through.
WINNER - THE MOLLIE STEVENS TROPHY FOR THE BEST MINIATURE. Down The Lane by Margaret Plant. Delightful painting that loses nothing for its size.
RUNNER-UP - THE MOLLIE STEVENS TROPHY FOR THE BEST MINIATURE. Forest Sunrise 3 by Virginia Whiting. Full of texture and interesting shapes. Verticals force the viewer to look through.
WINNER - THE HARRY JOHNS TROPHY FOR THE MOST ORIGINAL WORK. The River Runs Deep by Teresa Rogers. Interesting presentation conveys movement and patterns created by the subject.
RUNNER-UP - THE HARRY JOHNS TROPHY FOR THE MOST ORIGINAL WORK. hose Were the Days by Suzan Houching. Excellent story telling captures the viewers’ imagination in this colourful abstract work.
WINNER - THE SAM HOLLAND TROPHY FOR THE MOST IMAGINATIVE PAINTING AND WINNER - THE FOSTER WELLS TROPHY FOR THE BEST PAINTING IN THE EXHIBITION. Ride The Wind by Linda Boddy. Beautifully painted and composed. Muted palette and facial expressions work well together and add contrasts that draw the viewer into the narration of the painting.
RUNNER-UP - THE SAM HOLLAND TROPHY FOR THE MOST IMAGINATIVE PAINTING. Globe Thistle by Jane Humphrey. Creative use of textiles to create the decorative quality of the subject. Small use of yellow to compliment the violet flower.
WINNER - THE DOREEN BAKER TROPHY FOR THE BEST FLORAL PAINTING. Bouquet of Fire by Christine Ingram. Good diagonal composition, warm and cool colours create a pleasing interpretation of the floral subject.
RUNNER-UP - THE DOREEN BAKER TROPHY FOR THE BEST FLORAL PAINTING. The Watchman by Cathy Beggs. Beautiful pen and ink drawing with good use of scale and contrast.
WINNER - THE ANN SQUIRE TROPHY FOR THE BEST WILDLIFE PAINTING AND RUNNER-UP - THE FOSTER WELLS TROPHY FOR THE BEST PAINTING IN THE EXHIBITION. Chilling Out by Jan Martyn. A beautifully rendered work that captures the sensitivity of this majestic subject in its natural environment.
RUNNER-UP - THE ANN SQUIRE TROPHY FOR THE BEST WILDLIFE PAINTING. Mirror Image by Lyndsey Cole. Full of vibrancy and movement that captures the speed of flight of the kingfisher.
