WINNER - THE GREYFRIERS TROPHY FOR BEST WATERCOLOUR. Salisbury Cathedral by Cathy Collins. I love the warmth of the light falling across this piece with the cooler shadows. You have a lovely way of restraining your areas of detail to let us enjoy the painting as a whole
RUNNER-UP - THE GREYFRIERS TROPHY FOR BEST WATERCOLOUR. Winter Sun, Mudeford by John Collins. You have captured the seasonal light, John – a beautiful scene.
WINNER - THE ANN MURRAY TROPHY FOR BEST OIL PAINTING and WINNER OF THE ANN ROSE TROPHY FOR THE BEST PICTURE SELECTED BY MEMBERS AND GUEST VOTING AT THE PRIVATE VIEWING. Head for Home by David Rowland. So much to love about this piece, David. My eyes enjoy sweeping around the composition, and taken in deep breaths of sea air. The figure sits subtly in the scene and connects me to the movement of the waves.
RUNNER-UP - THE ANN MURRAY TROPHY FOR BEST OIL PAINTING. Kimmeridge Ledges by Virginia Whiting. So much to enjoy! This painting is full of life in your capturing of the pattern of the rocks and your fearless rendition of the clouds. Beautiful use of colour.
WINNER - THE COURTICE MILLENNIUM PLATE FOR THE BEST PASTEL and RUNNER-UP - THE FOSTER-WELLS TROPHY FOR BEST IN EXHIBITION AS JUDGED BY THE ADJUDICATOR. J’aime les Anes by John Challenor Such a beautifully focused drawing – the softness of the pastels is delightful – love it!
RUNNER-UP - THE COURTICE MILLENNIUM PLATE FOR THE BEST PASTEL. Going Home by Ursula Cook-Skalak. This is an absolutely charming composition. I love your use of colour and pastel application.
WINNER - THE MASON-SMITH TROPHY FOR THE BEST ACRYLIC. Brass Kettle and Lemons by Elvie O'Hanlon. Gorgeous! The colours absolutely pop! I particularly enjoy the dark bottle. You have some lovely lines/edges leading the eye.
RUNNER-UP - THE MASON-SMITH TROPHY FOR THE BEST ACRYLIC. Tanner's Lane by Margaret Plant You have built a lovely atmosphere with your limited tonal palette – very nice indeed.
WINNER - THE JUBILEE TROPHY FOR THE BEST PAINTING IN ANY OTHER MEDIUM. Walled Garden by John Challenor What a treat! I really loved your pastel tones and the way that you have captured the failing yellow light on the leaves to the path.
RUNNER-UP - THE JUBILEE TROPHY FOR THE BEST PAINTING IN ANY OTHER MEDIUM. Farm House, Essenac by Jen Oulton I really like the balance of the detail/space. The composition flows beautifully and the media is delicately balanced.
WINNER - THE MOLLIE STEVENS TROPHY FOR THE BEST MINIATURE. Little Mermaid by Linda Boddy Such a perfect little painting to find nestled inside a shell – beautiful.
RUNNER-UP - THE MOLLIE STEVENS TROPHY FOR THE BEST MINIATURE. Tall Trees in a small space by Teresa Rogers I really like your use of media to create this miniature landscape – subtle and with depth too!
WINNER - THE HARRY JOHNS TROPHY FOR THE MOST ORIGINAL WORK. What Inspired You? by Suzan Houching. So much fun! This is playful and entertaining – carefully built up with your use of colour and pattern.
RUNNER-UP - THE HARRY JOHNS TROPHY FOR THE MOST ORIGINAL WORK. I miss the sea by Judith Warbey. I love the way you have overlaid text and washes of colour – very beautiful.
WINNER - THE SAM HOLLAND TROPHY FOR THE MOST IMAGINATIVE PAINTING Storm Approaching by Christine Ingram A thoughtful use of the dark tones and brushwork – there is so much depth in this with the slightest touch of yellow – beautiful.
RUNNER-UP - THE SAM HOLLAND TROPHY FOR THE MOST IMAGINATIVE PAINTING. Glimpses of the sea by Judith Warbey. I love your exploration of shape and pattern – this has so much movement and detail to discover and enjoy.
WINNER - THE DOREEN BAKER TROPHY FOR THE BEST FLORAL PAINTING. Tricky Treat by Cathy Beggs The wonderful depth of detail opening up into the light, the bee sitting headfirst in the bloom – a delightful drawing.
RUNNER-UP - THE DOREEN BAKER TROPHY FOR THE BEST FLORAL PAINTING. Jug of Joy by Sally Rowland I really enjoyed this piece, Sally. The blooms are full of vitality and the colours fresh and lively.
WINNER - THE ANN SQUIRE TROPHY FOR THE BEST WILDLIFE PAINTING The Falls by Linda Boddy. Your minimal use of colour focuses my gaze o n the horse, centrally placed in the cruciform composition. Beautiful!
