Framing and Presentation Guide

ACCEPTANCE OF PICTURES
All pictures must be well framed and presented.

Any painting that has a mount MUST be glazed, even if
the medium used is oil or acrylic.

Please use the correct Framing BROWN tape to secure paintings into frames where glass is used (available at Artcetera Art Shop, Boscombe) as cheap alternatives, white/cream masking tape, Gaffa tape, parcel tape etc will come away from the frame leaving the painting open to the atmosphere, and subject to deterioration.

Please use D rings and string about 1/3rd of the way down the back of the painting. Other forms of fixings, wire etc are not acceptable.

Box canvasses are acceptable but must be at least 1" deep with no visable fixings or staples. Ordinary canvases are not acceptable in this category these must be framed and entered as framed paintings.

Please consider if the presentation is to a standard that you would be happy with, should you be buying it.

The committee reserves the right to reject any work considered unsuitable in content, framing or size.

UNFRAMED WORKS
These unframed works will be displayed in browsers for people to handle.
They should have mounts and be suitably covered and labelled.
Oil or Acrylic on board will be acceptable without mounts but no stretched or box canvasses in this category.
If a portfolio work has been displayed somewhere before please make a new label and present the painting clean & tidy. The label must be on the front, this prevents unnecessary handling during the exhibition.

Please be careful when writing the medium your work is painted in. As there have been discrepancies in the past. eg. Watercolour must be pure Watercolour, not thin acrylic. Pastel must be pastel and not mixed with other mediums. If they are not pure then please write eg Pastel & Colour Pencil. or Mixed Media or Acrylic the adjudicator has to take your word for the medium you write, when judging.
